What is an Author? An Author is a creator who loves language, the art of writing, and loves to think creatively. He or She is the person who originated existence to anything and the authorship determines what was created. His or her focus is to produce any written work such as a book or play that is a well-crafted piece of work to read and enjoy. There are different types of authors such as journalists, novelists, poets, playwrights, screenwriters, copywriters, and so on. Purpose of the Author: The main purpose of the author is intent in writing and to amuse, persuade, inform, entertain, explain, or describe the reader. Author's Four ways of Writing: An Author is a person who uses written words in different styles and techniques to communicate ideas. He or She writes with one of four general purposes in mind: # Narrative - in which the author tells a story whether it may be fact or fiction. To relate a story, the author uses narrative writing. # Expository - in which the author inform or teach the reader. To explain the subject to the reader, the author uses expository writing. # Descriptive - in which five senses are used to paint a picture to the reader. To tell what feels like, the author uses descriptive writing. # Persuasive - in which the opinion of the writer attempts to influence the reader. To convince a reader to believe an idea the author uses persuasive writing. Why we have to know about the author? $ Helps to develop reading skills. $ To enhance a deeper attachment to books. $ To improve writing skills. $ To build creative and critical thinking skills. $ To establish a community between the readers. $ To expose the different types of literary voices and styles and literacy skills and so on. So, First, we have to know about the author, then choose an author and then read the book.
